Zakkai was a wealthy chief tax collector in Yericho. He wanted to see who Yeshua was, but he was short and the crowd blocked his view. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree.
When Yeshua reached the spot, he looked up and called Zakkai by name. He said he must stay at his house that day. Zakkai came down quickly and welcomed him gladly, but the people complained that Yeshua was entering a sinner’s house.
Zakkai said he would give half his possessions to the poor and repay four times over anything he had taken dishonestly. Yeshua said salvation had come to this house that day, because the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.
